Here's something that used to keep me up at night when I was a strength coach: trying to find the perfect program.
The perfect exercise that would finally make my athletes stronger. The programming that would finally get their squat up. The routine that would transfer perfectly to the field.
I had ridiculous anxiety putting together programs. Constantly worried I was missing something. What if this exercise sequence is wrong? What if there's a better split? What if I'm leaving gains on the table?
**Simplicity wins. Every time.**
I eventually started following coaches like Dr. Tommy John and Austin Jochum. And you know what they all pointed to?
The best program you can do is the one you actually believe in and put all of your energy into.
That's it.
**Conor McGregor stuck with one team his entire UFC career**
McGregor bought into what John Cavanaugh was coaching him. He's talked about it openly. The importance of buying in. Communication. Loyalty to the program and the people running it.
That's how success compounds. You don't see it when athletes are constantly shopping for the next shiny thing.
**I would take a shitty program with 100% buy-in over a perfect program with half-effort**
EVERY TIME.
Give me an exercise program where the sets and reps don't make sense. The programming is mediocre. But the athlete buys in completely and trains as hard as they possibly can.
That beats the most perfectly designed program where the athlete's mind is somewhere else. Where they're already wondering if there's something better out there.
You get results from the program you actually put work into. The one you give everything you have to.
**And that's before we even talk about the stuff outside the gym**
Sleep. Recovery. Rest. Nutrition. All of it.
If you're half-assing the training AND ignoring everything else, no program on earth is going to save you.
**Run a six-month cycle before you tell me it doesn't work**
Buy in all the way. Give whatever you're doing a real chance.
Then come back and tell me it doesn't work. Did you actually buy in? Did you show up every single day and give 100%?
Stop program hopping. Stop searching for the perfect thing. Just train hard.
I guarantee you'll see results.
