Every recruiting service wants to sell you a secret formula. Some proprietary system that unlocks the coaches' vault.

There is no vault. The formula is short, and it has four parts.

Talent wins. Everything else is tiebreaker.

If you are good at baseball, pretty much everything else goes out the window. I do not care how tall you are, how fast you run, or what your body looks like in a uniform. If you throw hard, hit the ball far, or play defense that wins games, coaches will find you.

A 5'8" guy who rakes is still a guy who rakes, and a tall kid with a projectable frame but a 78 mph fastball is still a kid with a 78 mph fastball. Coaches recruit the best players. Full stop.

That is the first filter. If you pass it, you are in the conversation. If a lot of players pass it at the same level, we move to the next one.

Physicality is where projectability lives.

Two players with the same skill level show up to a showcase. One is 6'2", lanky, without an inch to pinch. The other is 5'8" and already filled out. The taller player gets the second look. Not because he is better right now. Because the coach is betting on where he will be in two years.

Bigger players typically hit the ball further, and faster players steal more bases and make more defensive plays. Physicality and talent go hand in hand. A good way to get more talented is to get more physical, to prove how you can absorb and exert force on the field.

That is not a knock on shorter players. It is a fact about how coaches project ceilings.

Mentality is the thing that keeps you in the program.

You need to love baseball if you want to play in college. You will play every single day. Rain, snow, exam week, it does not matter. The schedule does not care about your feelings.

So coaches ask: Are you resilient? Do you bounce back after a bad day? Do you have the desire to get better, or are you going to rest on your laurels the moment you sign?

A player who shows up every day and gives it his all is a player who survives the grind. A player who quits when it gets uncomfortable is a liability no matter how talented he looked in high school.

Marketability is YOUR job.

Coaches cannot recruit you if they do not know who you are.

That means a good skills video. That means an informative email. That means a good product to sell (yourself). That means not being afraid to reach out.

If you are a physical, talented player with locked-down mental toughness, you will not have to market yourself as hard. Coaches will hear about you. But if you are less physical, less talented, you HAVE to market yourself well. You have no other option.

All four of these things go hand in hand. Talent matters most. Physicality matters second. Mentality keeps you in the game. Marketability gets you in the door.

That is the formula. No secrets. No vault. Just work.

That is exactly why Athora Lab exists. We give you the resources to reach the right coaches yourself, without paying someone else to do what you can do better.
