What I Learned After Signing My NLI

The recruiting process is overwhelming. You're trying to develop as a player while simultaneously marketing yourself, sending emails, and figuring out which showcases are worth your time and money. I did all of it. When I finally signed, here's what I learned.

Development matters more than anything else.

It doesn't mean nothing else matters, but development comes first. A coach has to look at you and see a guy who helps his team win. Until you clear that bar, no amount of emails, DMs, or coach recommendations will get you recruited. You can do everything else right and still go nowhere if the ability isn't there.

Recruiting services are a waste of money.

I tried them all. None of it worked. Once I was good enough, I didn't need anyone reaching out on my behalf, my high school coach handled it, and my ability spoke for itself. You can't buy your way into a roster spot.

Showcases are built for the top guys in the class, not you.

There isn't much real scouting happening at these events. They're primarily a vehicle for showcase companies to hype the elite prospects who happened to attend. If you're not a potential draft pick or a big-time D1 commit, a showcase isn't going to change that.

Time is your most valuable asset.

The recruiting world is nicer to good players. Don't waste time contacting coaches if you can't help them win. And when you do reach the level where coaches want to hear from you, spending hours tracking down contact information is time not spent on development. That's why Athora Lab exists. We give you all the resources to reach the right coaches yourself, so you can stay focused on what actually gets you recruited.
